Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world, known for reducing fine lines and wrinkles and giving skin a smoother, refreshed look. But if you’re considering Botox – or have just had it done – knowing the do’s and don’ts is essential for getting the best results.

Now you already know that I am a skincare enthusiast – but nothing gets rid of wrinkles as quickly and effectively as Botox. I’ve had botox ever since I was 26 and it was a decision I never ever regretted (all my girlfriends are now on it and we all have the same thought about it.

Another disclaimer: Botox will not make you look unnatural! It relaxes your muscles and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, but if you’re thinking of the distorted faces – that’s dermal filler (which can also look good, but in scarce amounts).

Here’s your complete guide.

✅ Botox Do’s

1. Choose a Qualified Injector

  • Always go to a licensed, experienced medical professional with an appropriate degree.
  • A skilled injector knows the right placement and dosage for natural results.
  • Ask all the questions you have before the treatment! You need to feel comfortable and ready.

2. Stay Upright for 4 Hours After Treatment

  • This prevents Botox from migrating into unintended areas.
  • If you’ve done botox in the late afternoon, keeping your head on an extra pillow while sleeping will also help.

3. Gently Exercise Your Facial Muscles

  • Frown, smile, or raise your eyebrows lightly—this can help the Botox settle into place.
  • These movements will also make botox molecules bind quicker to muscle – thus quicker result!

4. Keep Your Skin Clean

  • Wash your face gently and use soothing, non-irritating skincare products.
  • Applying make-up is generally okay after 6 hours.

5. Plan Ahead

  • Results take 3–7 days to show fully. Book appointments at least 2 weeks before events.
  • If it’s your wedding or your first time, I recommend booking an appointment at least 1 month before!

❌ Botox Don’ts

1. Don’t Touch or Rub the Area

  • Massaging or pressing can spread the Botox into unwanted areas.
  • Pressing on the forehead or wearing tight bands/caps/hats can reduce the effects.

2. Don’t Lie Down Immediately

  • Avoid lying flat or bending forward for at least 4 hours.

3. Avoid Intense Exercise (24 Hours)

  • Heavy workouts increase blood flow, which can reduce effectiveness or cause bruising.
  • High temperatures also affect the result (less effect) so avoid saunas for 24 hours.

4. Skip Alcohol and Blood Thinners

  • For 24 hours before and after, avoid alcohol, aspirin, or ibuprofen to minimize bruising.

5. Don’t Get Other Facial Treatments Right Away

  • Avoid facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for at least a week after Botox.

🌸 Extra Tips for the Best Botox Results

  • Use sunscreen daily to protect your skin and prolong results.
  • Stay hydrated—healthy skin responds better to treatment.
  • Botox will last 3-4 months so keep a consistent schedule (eg. every 4-6 months) for maintenance if you want long-term results.

✨ Final Thoughts

Botox can deliver beautiful, natural results when done properly—but your aftercare matters just as much as the injection itself. Follow these Botox do’s and don’ts to ensure your treatment looks great and lasts as long as possible.
